Free zones in Colombia
Source: BOGOTA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
The free zones in our country, Colombia, have various objectives such as encouraging competitiveness, supporting the development of productive and competitive processes, carrying out direct processes with the chamber of goods and services that can make sales management simpler, and allow nationalization of products and even serve as a tool to create job options and training for investors.
Free zones are delimited areas in the national territory, where industrial activities of goods and services or commercial activities are carried out under tax, customs, and foreign trade matters. These zones are part of the national territory, which means that their international trade activities therefore require import or export rights.
There are three kinds of free zones:
Permanent Free Zones (ZFP):
It is defined as the area in which multiple industrial or commercial users are installed, which have a special tax, customs, and foreign trade treatment highlighting the Bogota Free Zone.
Special Permanent Free Zones (ZFPE):
It is the delimited area of the national territory in which a single industrial user is installed, who obtains a special tax, customs, and foreign trade treatment, with emphasis on companies installed in those free zones and that have been authorized by the Colombian government.
Transitory Free Zones (ZFT):
It is the delimited area of the national territory where national or international trade shows, exhibitions, congresses, and seminars are held, which are important for the economy and/or international trade, and which enjoy special tax, customs, and foreign trade treatment.
